As artists, we put a lot of ourselves into what we make. That can make us protective, maybe even a little defensive. There’s something in that push and pull—wanting to share, but also wanting to hold onto what’s ours.
From a painting standpoint, it’s about finding the balance between realism and looseness—seeing the big shapes first, then breaking them down into smaller ones, layering marks in a way that feels natural.
